The Prison Outreach

Prison Fellowship Rwanda served in prisons throughout Rwanda to transform the lives of prisoners through the good news of Jesus Christ and through the message of forgiveness and reconciliation. With the support of chaplain volunteers, we are preaching the gospel in all 14 prisons in Rwanda to ensure that prisoners are receiving the message of transformation, reconciliation. Stories are multiplying and demonstrating that God is actively at work in a world that seems broken beyond repair.

PF Rwanda assigned 69 chaplains in all prisons of Rwanda to ensure that prisoners are receiving the message of reconciliation and hearing about the gospel on a consistent basis. In this program PF Rwanda also conducted literacy training (reading and writing skills) for over 400 inmates in 4 prisons.  Also under this program, PFR implemented athletic activities through provision of sports activities into the prisons to combat idleness, improve health and fitness, and build a sense of team spirit among prisoners. Nutrition support and hygienic materials have been provided to the children under 3 years. Food stuffs such maize flour, sugar, SOSOMA and cooking oil and hygienic materials such as, cloth, shoes, bed sheets, wash basin, toilet pot, detergent soap, Laundry soap and oil lotion also have been distributed.

Because of your kindness in 2016, we reached just over 43,000 prisoners with the Gospel and through the Evangelism programme in Prisons, about 2000 inmates have been baptized in 2016. Through biblically based programs, those who committed crimes can be transformed and mobilized to serve their neighbours, replacing the cycle of violence with a cycle of renewal.
