Immaculee healed after joining psychosocial dialogue group
Mujawamariya Immaculee is serving the prison sentence in Prison of Musanze where she has served 24 years. All the time she suffered from sleeplessness (Insomnia), she used to take tablets for being able to sleep but it failed, she tried to meet with different doctors where she got injections but still no changes. Later, Prison administration helped her to meet with Neuro-psychiatrist from caraes Ndera hospital to be treated but the tablets given did change anything and she decided to stop using tablets. She was always calm and isolated which caused her fellow inmates to be afraid of her.
However, after joining healing dialogues introduced by Prison Fellowship Rwanda, things started to change. On Wednesday of the second week of dialogues that very evening while she was sitting on her bed, she felt she wanted to sleep and from that day sleeping was no longer a problem. Days after she started approaching and talking with her fellow prisoners and also her fellow inmates started to approach her and trust her. She said: “I was elected to be representative of one Village (Umudugudu) in women’s inmate house, and later I became executive secretary of women’s block in Musanze prison”. She added “being in healing sessions has helped me also to disclosure the truth about crimes I committed during 1994 genocide against Tutsi, which was difficult for me because I always feared talking about my evil deeds”. Today, I humbly want to apologize to the families I offended and I’m ready to reveal where bodies of their relatives are buried. As I conclude, I need your support so that I could meet face to face survivor’s families I have offended and ask them for forgiveness.
